Introduction

Puffy is one of the newer kids on the block when it comes to the mattress in a box game. Their vision was to create a mattress that had you feeling as though you were sleeping on a cloud, and that’s exactly what they did. They offer two mattress options, the Puffy and the Puffy Lux. Both mattresses use CertiPUR-US certified foam and come in sizes from Twin to California King.

This review will be focusing on the Puffy mattress, and our testers have been working hard to put it through its paces. Overall, they loved how soft and luxurious it felt, and concluded that it would be best suited to front sleepers as it really gives you the sinkage you need to have a comfortable night’s sleep.

The three layers of foam in the Puffy mattress all work together to make a blissful sleep experience. Unlike most other foam mattresses we have reviewed, this one falls on the softer end of the firmness scale. But, thanks to the base layer of foam, you still feel supported and in alignment.

Value for money

In summary

Our team were definitely big fans of the Puffy memory foam mattress, scoring it high marks in the majority of testing areas. It performed best when it came to comfort, value for money, and customer support; closely followed by durability, pain relief, and off-gassing. It’s lowest scoring area was in its edge support, as such a soft mattress it wasn’t able to live up to the same standards as other similar brands.

Hands on review

What's it made from

The Puffy mattress is made up of three layers of foam, giving you a luxuriously soft mattress to sleep on.

Top Layer

Cooling cloud comfort layer – This top layer is designed to cradle your body in all right places to relieve the most important pressure points when sleeping such as you back, hips and shoulders. It has been designed to be breathable to help regulate body temperature, although it seems less effective in this area than other similar mattresses.

2nd Layer

Climate comfort layer – The middle layer’s main purpose is also temperature control, claiming to regulate your body temperature throughout the year as well as keeping its shape no matter the climate.

3rd Layer

Firm core support layer – the base layer is a thick firm support layer designed to keep you in alignment while allowing for comfortable movement during the night.

Mattress Cover

The Puffy mattress comes with a stain-resistant cover that you can zip off and wash to keep your mattress fresh throughout the year. It has a white top sheet and dark gray surrounds, making it a refreshing design, as well as a useful one.

Comfort & firmness

Our testers were all in agreement that the Puffy mattress is very soft and giving, so will not be suitable for those who prefer a firm mattress. Instead, this mattress has a lot of give and easily envelops the sleeper in every position.

They rated the mattress very highly in terms of comfort, enjoying how they sank into the mattress and the softness of it. It supports all the main pressure points across the body, helping you to feel relaxed and stay in alignment throughout the night.

Pain relief and support

Puffy-Pain-Relief-and-Support

Our testers found that the Puffy mattress was great for pain relief thanks to its soft nature and the way it cradles your whole body as you sleep. And, they’re not the only ones! Across the internet, there are a number of positive and glowing reviews detailing how this mattress helped those who suffer from back pain.

Side sleepers

Side sleepers also fare well with the Puffy mattress, sinking happily into the soft foam while still having the support on their hip and shoulder pressure points.

Sinkage and edge support

Where this mattress struggles is when it comes to edge support. This is where our testers gave the Puffy mattress it’s lowest score. The softness of the foam doesn’t provide a huge amount of support around the edges of the mattress, making it feel less secure than other similar brands on the market.

The sinkage levels were very high on this mattress, making it perfect for those who like to feel enveloped by their mattress. Sleepers who prefer a firmer feel will find this has too much sinkage for them, and would be better looking elsewhere for their mattress.

Heat retention

Despite their best efforts, the Puffy mattress doesn’t regulate temperature as effectively as other foam mattresses like the Nectar or Leesa brands do. And so, if you find that you usually run hot while you sleep, or live in a warmer state, this might not be the mattress for you.

Unboxing

The Puffy mattress comes delivered in a box and unpacks and expands easily in a very short space of time. Our testers found little to no smell emanating from the mattress during this process meaning you’re able to unpack and enjoy your new mattress right away!

Intimacy

As the Puffy mattress is a lot softer than many competitors, couples may find it more difficult to navigate around it during intimate moments. There is also little to no bounce as the mattress is made entirely of foam, so some couples may find it lacks in this area too.

Bed frame compatibility

The Puffy mattress is designed to work with any bed frame, so you’ll be happy to know it will be compatible with your current setup. Whether you’re using a slatted frame, full frame, box springs or an adjustable base, the mattress will happily sit atop your frame.

Is this mattress right for you?

Side and back sleepers will be hard pressed to find another mattress out there that offers the softness and support of the Puffy mattress. It allows you to sink into the foam, while still maintaining the necessary support across your pressure points.

As the temperature control isn’t as advanced on this mattress as other foam mattresses, this would also be well suited to people who are usually cold when they sleep, or those that live in cooler climates as the foam layers can help to keep you warmer at night than a spring or hybrid mattress would.

In conclusion

In conclusion, this is a good value foam mattress with a lot of positive points. It was definitely a firm favorite with our testing team, as well as the general public. It provides a nice soft base for a good night’s sleep, while still providing a high level of support across the necessary pressure points.
