Leesa recently updated their popular memory foam mattress by changing the material of their top layer. They took note of customer feedback and introduced their new original LSA200 foam top layer, offering cooling technology without sacrificing on comfort. All their mattresses come with their signature striped mattress cover in white and gray.

Because of its foam construction, this mattress is best suited to people of smaller builds as the level of sinkage may not provide the necessary support for heavier or larger framed people. It is also best suited to back sleepers for the same reasons. The support levels are probably just not high enough for stomach sleepers, although side sleepers will still find this a comfortable fit.

As a company, Leesa puts a lot of time and effort into cultivating a positive social impact. For every ten mattresses they sell, they donate another to a good cause. They also plant a tree for every mattress they sell and encourage their employees to participate in charitable events through the company.

In a nutshell

What you need to look out for

Back sleepers will find this mattress incredibly comfortable thanks to the pressure point relief it offers on your spine. It’s medium firmness and memory foam technology make this a wise choice for traditional back sleepers as it will effectively envelop you while you sleep.

Thanks to its original foam technology on the top layer, it is also a good option for sleepers who run hotter than average. The top layer of foam has been specially designed to help keep you cool throughout the night, more so than your typical memory foam mattress.

Our team of expert testers have been busy putting this mattress through its paces in order for you to make the most informed decision. We took an in-depth look at materials, comfort, and firmness, what our testers thought with their different sleeping positions, as well as tests on both the sinkage and edge support.

In summary

The Leesa memory foam mattress was something of a mixed bag when it came to our in-house testing. It scored highly in customer support and off-gassing but fell short when it came to edge support. Its firmness level caused a divide in our test group as well, with some scoring it very low when it came to sinkage.

What's it made from

The Leesa memory foam is made up of three foam layers that make up a total of 10” of comfort.

Top Layer

Comfort layer – 2” of their very own LSA200 foam make up the top layer of this mattress. Replacing the previous convoluted layer, this foam is specially designed to help regulate your body temperature while you sleep, keeping you cool.

2nd Layer

Recovery layer – The middle layer is another 2” of foam, this time focused on supporting the contours of your body. This is especially important for side sleepers as it relieves pressure points such as your shoulders and hips.

3rd Layer

Support layer – Finally, you have 6” of dense core foam at the base of the mattress to support your sleep, no matter your weight or body type.

Mattress Cover

The Leesa mattress cover still has its signature four stripe design and is made from a blend of polyester and lycra. This mixture of materials provides a good amount of moisture wicking while keeping it feeling soft and stretchy. It’s made from one continuous piece of fabric, giving it a seamless design, which keeps it looking fresh.

Comfort & firmness

On average, our testers were impressed with the comfort level of the Leesa memory foam mattress. While they found it may be a little too firm for stomach sleepers, overall it scored highly. It supported back, shoulder, hip, and knee pressure points well, ensuring that you stay in alignment throughout the night.

Pain relief and support

There are a number of reviews online from people claiming that they experienced a reduction in back pain after switching to a Leesa mattress, and our testers also scored it highly in this area. The thick support layer at the bottom of the mattress helps to keep you in the ideal position while you sleep, but it does lack zoned support. It supports the main pressure points, but if you have more severe back pain, you might want to look for a mattress that is designed especially with that in mind.

Sleeping position ratings

On average, our testers were impressed with the comfort level of the Leesa memory foam mattress. While they found it may be a little too firm for stomach sleepers, overall it scored highly. It supported back, shoulder, hip, and knee pressure points well, ensuring that you stay in alignment throughout the night.

Side sleepers

Side sleepers will have a much better time with the Leesa mattress. It does well to support your hips and shoulders while on your side and provides enough sinkage to keep you comfortable. One of our testers did feel that it was still a touch too firm for them on their side, but overall a good scorer.

Sinkage and edge support

The Leesa memory foam mattress doesn’t come with zoned support and so the edge support is not as effective as mattresses like the Casper hybrid. This was actually one of the areas where this mattress scored lower with our testers.

Our testers were a range of heights and weights so we could get a good picture of how the mattress sinks when being used. Our results were mixed across the board with some of our testers finding it sank too much for them, and some saying it was just right. Everyone has a different preference when it comes to sinkage, but overall we found that this one was fairly firm and didn’t sink too deep for the average person.

Heat retention

Thanks to their custom LSA200 foam top layer, the Leesa mattress does a good job of keeping you cool throughout the night. Most foam mattresses retain high levels of heat, but this cooling layer helps to prevent that to a certain degree. This makes it a great option for those who enjoy the comfort of memory foam but require the cooling effect of a spring mattress.

When our testers unboxed the Leesa memory foam mattress, they found little to no smell from the off-gassing. The mattress is CertiPUR-US certified and has been made with low VOC emissions to help keep chemicals to a minimum.

The mattress comes in a box, and is more compressed than most other mattresses, making it even smaller and easier to maneuver to the right room in your house before opening. Once you take the final layer of plastic off, it takes a matter of minutes to fully expand, making it ideal for those who want to enjoy their new mattress right away.

Thanks to its foam construction, the Leesa mattress makes little to no noise when experiencing movement on top of it. This is ideal for intimate moments as it will not detract from the experience. Although, it offers very low levels of bounciness which may not be preferential for some couples.

Bed frame compatibility

The Leesa memory foam mattress works with any standard bed frame including box springs, platform bases, and slats. Thanks to its foam construction, it can also be used with an adjustable base as it will move and contour to the bed position.

Is this mattress right for you?

Where this mattress really shines is in its ability to keep you cool while still offering the comfort of memory foam. That makes it perfect for people who live in warmer states or run hot while they sleep. Their technology will keep your temperature regulated without sacrificing comfort.

Ideally, this mattress is best suited to back and side sleepers who are on the smaller side. Its construction may not provide the firmness and support for larger built people or stomach sleepers, so bear this in mind when considering your purchase.

In conclusion

The Leesa memory foam mattress has many good points to focus on including its breathable materials and effective back pain relief. It is incredibly easy to unbox and install and offers medium firmness while keeping that luxurious memory foam sinkage. There are a number of top-rated reviews on the net that just go to show how well-liked this mattress is across the board.
