What you need to look out for

Highlights

One of the big positives of the Emma mattress is how well it works for a variety of sleep styles. In fact, it’s an ideal choice for combination sleepers who find themselves switching between positions throughout the night. This is thanks to the mattresses responsiveness and lower levels of sinkage. You don’t feel trapped in one position like you might with other memory foam mattresses.

In summary

Overall, the Emma mattress scored consistently well across the board with high scores for their quality and the various sleeping positions. The area where our testers felt it fell a little short was when it came to edge support. Here, it scored the lowest out of all the testing points.Despite this, our team was still big fans of the comfort that the Emma mattress provides, regardless of your preferred sleeping position – making it a great choice for combination sleepers.

What's it made from

The Emma mattress is a memory foam mattress that combines three layers of foam to provide a comfortable sleep experience.

Top Layer

Airgocell foam layer: This top comfort layer adapts to pressure and responds to your movement, ensuring you stay comfortable in any position. The material also helps to regulate your body temperature throughout the night, making sure you don’t overheat.

2nd Layer

Visco-elastic memory foam layer: This middle layer works to evenly distribute your weight to make sure that the mattress adapts to your own individual body shape and curve.

3rd Layer

HRX material layer: This base layer provides effective support for the whole body, with zoned sections working to provide personalized pressure point relief dependant on your sleep style.

Mattress Cover

The mattress cover is designed to promote airflow through your mattress, helping to keep it cooler and fresher for longer. It is easily removed and is machine washable, and the elastic design helps it to snap back into place with ease.

Comfort & firmness

The Emma mattress is classed as “medium-firm” and provides effective support without too much sinkage. Unlike some other memory foam mattresses, you won’t feel enveloped by the Emma, instead, it allows you to change position throughout the night with ease, instead of being stuck in one place.

Sleepers of all sizes will be able to find a comfortable night’s sleep on the Emma mattress thanks to its core support layer and how it keeps you in alignment while you sleep.

Pain relief and support

Emma-Pain-Relief-and-Support

The Emma mattress may not be firm enough to provide superior pain relief or back support to serious sufferers, but its supportive base layer helps to keep those aches and pains at bay. Thanks to the firmer feel of this mattress combined with the lower levels of sinkage, you feel more like you’re lying on top of the mattress, instead of feeling like your sinking too far into it.

Side sleepers

Some side sleepers may find that there simply isn’t enough sinkage for them to feel fully supported on this mattress, but with the help of the zoned support in the base layer, some of those worries can be alleviated. Your shoulders will be supported while your hips are still able to sink down.

Sinkage and edge support

Compared to other similar models, there is a much lower level of sinkage with the Emma mattress – this isn’t a bad thing though. Lower levels of sinkage mean that you are able to change sleeping position with ease, making it perfect for combination sleepers. It does mean that there is a higher level of motion disturbance though if your partner is an active sleeper too.

Heat retention

The breathable cover and the top layer of Airgocell foam mean that this mattress manages to offset some of the typical heat retentions that you find with a memory foam mattress. This makes it a good option for those who find that they run warmer than average while sleeping.

Unboxing

The Emma mattress comes delivered to your door vacuum-packed into a small box, making it easy to navigate through your home and to your desired location. Unboxing is quick and easy, and once unpacked, the mattress will fully expand in just a few hours. There is little to no smell when unboxing the Emma mattress, although we always recommend leaving a window open to help the smell dissipate.

Intimacy

Thanks to its lower level fo sinkage, the Emma mattress works well for intimacy, as movement on top of the mattress isn’t hindered by its design. It’s also practically silent, so you won’t have any noise disrupting the moment. It may not be quite as responsive or bouncy as some couples may prefer, but overall works very well in this area.

Bed frame compatibility

The Emma mattress works with all traditional bed frame designs, providing the frame and the mattress are the same size. If you choose to use a slatted bed frame, it is important to ensure that the gaps between the slats are not too wide so that it is properly able to support the weight of a foam mattress.

Is this mattress right for you?

The Emma mattress comes highly recommended both by our own testers and the general public through their online reviews. Its elegant European design has won over fans both here and in the UK, and it’s easy to see why. If you like to feel supported while you sleep – especially as a combination sleeper, then this could definitely be the mattress for you.

While it may be too firm for some sleepers, those who like to change their position during the night will be pleasantly surprised by this product.

In conclusion

In conclusion, the Emma mattress is a high-quality product that has built up an intensely loyal fan base. It works for all sleep styles – almost equally, and is the perfect option for solo combination sleepers thanks to the lower levels of sinkage and zoned support.
